Many group marketing into sales, but it’s not. Many group marketing into advertising, but it’s not.

Much like a cryptozoologist looking for Bigfoot, it can be hard to find the right tactics and formula to get what you’re after. That’s when the amateur gives up. But that’s not you, is it?

What Marketing Isn’t

Marketing is not sales. Yes, it leads to sales by getting the word out there through branding and advertising, via both the written word and images, and then luring prospective customers in, but a marketer is not the one to actually interact with the sales lead—that’s the job of the sales person in the sales department.

Marketing is also not creative nor does it belong in the content department. Again, marketers work closely with these departments by sharing the analytics and insights they’ve gained from the information and research they’ve produced, but a marketer is not the one to actually produce or design the content.

Marketing is not easy. Many companies—and especially small businesses—make the error of doing all their own marketing without any know-how. That could work, providing you have someone who knows what they’re doing—like your very own Don Draper. But most brands just starting out don’t have that luxury, so they must go it alone. You can do it – if you have a map highlighting all the booby traps.

This question is broad and I think that reflects the many unique specialties within marketing. But one thing is certain: all marketing teams need a strategic plan.

So, is there anything wrong with the tools mentioned in some of these answers? No, not at all. But there is one very important piece missing: planning.

Marketers

I believe marketers need more than just a generic tool to help manage programs and campaigns. The work you do is more than just the bits and pieces. Marketing teams need — and deserve — their own dedicated space to plan strategy and link it to the actual day-to-day activities that are being delivered. In my experience, this is the only way to truly launch breakthrough marketing campaigns.

But this is not easy work. And it is made even harder when you are beaten down by poor planning (or no planning at all), requests hitting you from every direction, and 17 different tools to manage the chaos.

So I spent a lot of time asking people what they thought what marketing does and what marketing is.. And I got all the similar reactions. Well, sorry to break the bubble, But what marketing really is, isn’t what you think of it to be.

Marketing is huge domain! Far above selling, promoting, advertising, or taking feedback calls!

In my belief what Marketing really is, “Is everything which helps to get a smile on a customers face because of your product/service”

Anticipating what the customer might want is making the product which shall satisfy their needs and wants. Innovation and selecting how to reach out to these people.

Giving them the product, taking feedback, after sales service, thus everything which helps you maintain profitable customer relationships.

As the traditional definition by Philip Kotler says,

“Marketing is the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit. Marketing identifies unfulfilled needs and desires.”

In my opinion, marketing is one of the most important functions amy organisation can have. If an organisation is a car, Then Marketing is the engine and finance is the fuel.

That, Is what marketing is all about and that is how important it is.
As peter F.Drucker the management guru famously said, “A business enterprise has only two basic functions – marketing and innovation.”
